This is a well-known and much-loved family cruising yacht. During the first 30 years of her life she extensively cruised European offshore & coastal waters including Ireland, UK, France, Holland and Scandinavia. She has spent the last 25 years on the large inland lakes in Ireland (Loughs Ree & Derg on the Shannon navigation system).
Many of her early cruising voyages were documented in the Irish Cruising Club Annual publications in the late 1950's and 60's. She also became well known in sail racing circles as she was used as a committee boat in Dublin Bay regattas in the 1970's. Over the last 15 years she has also been in active service with the Lough Derg Yacht Club where she has been the committee boat for several major national, European and world sailing events.
She was designed by famous naval architect Baron Willhelm von Hoevell and built to a high owner specification by the Dutch shipyard Nicolass Witsen & Vis. Hull, topsides & deck are built with steel. Cockpit/cabin finished with Java teak and American mahogany. Masts and booms are Alaskan Sitka Spruce (replaced 2002). Ballast consists of 2.8 tonnes of lead in the long keel.
Her unique "built-up topsides" design gives her a much larger cabin space and deck area than one would normally expect in a 38 ft classic cruising yacht.
